Finca Punta Ayampe is a natural paradise set in a peaceful tropical forest hill overlooking the Pacific Ocean (only 190m./600 ft. off the beach) where you may well witness the spectacular views of the immense sea, our white long sandy beach and the mystical Islet of Los Ahorcados.

We are located at barely 24km./15mi. north of the surfing capital Montañita, 14km./9mi. south of Puerto López (departure port of the world famous Humpback Whale watching tours -June to October each year*); and between the ports of Salinas (90km./55mi. S) and Manta (135km./85mi. N).

RIVER

Ayampe river is born in the mountain range “Chongon-Colonche” and the “Cinco Cerros” (five hills).

It is the source of fresh water for the area between Ayampe and Jipijapa. As we move upstream –a great area for bird watching- you will find costal-rainforest hills.

You will likely spot a wide variety of flora and fauna in this area. The river, despite being relatively small, has small ponds and pools in its curves where you may refresh immersed in an all-natural environment.

Non-polluted sources give origin to this river, and also because of the continuous rains in the area; the water runs pure and pristine.

BEACH

Our beach stretches 8 km linking the towns of Ayampe to Puerto Rico. Although at high tide -in some areas there is not much room to walk on the beach, is at low tide when you might appreciate the true vastness of this beach, ideal for walking and/or jogging. Ayampe has a long, virgin, unexploited and unexplored beach that invites you to travel freely through its natural beauty.

Going down to the beach from the hotel, on your left-hand, we find the rocky point that is named after the town that sits near: Ayampe. This is a volcanic rock area where you can explore countless of formations. At low tide puddles formed little pools where you can immerse for hours cooling from the heat of this tropical beach.

If you turn to your right-hand, and walk about 15 minutes you will discover Ayampe’s river mouth to the Pacific Ocean. Surrounded by mangroves, this estuary offers an outstanding, natural and odd landscape. In rainy season the river flows clearly into whereas in the dry season it becomes a calm sanctuary for seabirds like pelicans, frigates, cormorants, gulls, herons and others.

If you want to test your fitness, you might want to continue walking along the beach until you reach the town of Puerto Rico an amazing trekking with the view of the beautiful sea, “Los Ahorcados” islet and hills full of green-tropical vegetation: Distinctive and unique scenery in the Ecuadorian continental sea coast.
